SOUTHAMPTON CANOE CLUB HASLER STYLE MARATHON SUNDAY, 25th July 2021 Briefing
- COVID is still with us. Please DO NOT attend if you, or any member of your household or support bubble, have any Covid symptoms or you have been asked to self-isolate. We strongly encourage all eligible attendees without Covid symptoms to take advantage of the government’s free Covid-19 testing program. Please take advantage of this option and test prior to attending the event.
- Please be aware that this is a public site and groups watching the race even from elsewhere on the riverbank will be associated with the event and will be considered as representing the sport to the local community. Please maintain social distancing even when outside.

- Remember to bring a £1 to pay for your car parking.
- Team leaders only to collect entry packs from Bitterne Park Social. Check in opens from 9.30am
- Please respect the wishes of the social club and wear a mask when entering the building and moving around.
- Buoyancy aids are compulsory for all Under 10 and Under 12 paddlers and those ranked in Division 7, 8 and 9 irrespective of the race they are entered in. This applies in singles and doubles.
- Team leaders should decide if paddlers under 16 years of age in higher divisions should wear a buoyancy aid.
- The club reserve the right to make buoyancy aids compulsory across all divisions should the weather conditions require this.
- Team Leaders are responsible for ensuring that paddlers are properly equipped having considered the paddler’s health, fitness, capability, the course, the prevailing conditions, and other risks associated with this race.
- The race will be run in accordance with the rules in the Canoe Racing Handbook.
- All boats must have sufficient buoyancy to remain afloat and to support the crew in rough water in the event of capsize. No boat will be deemed to be sufficiently buoyant purely because of its construction (e.g. vac bagged/sandwich or other construction) to fulfil this requirement, additional fixed buoyancy will be required in the form of foam, air bags and/or sealed bulkheads. Spot check will be carried out.
- Competitors must be able to swim adequately in the waters on which the race is being held.
- All paddlers are required to render assistance to other competitors in distress.

- If you retire you must let the finish marshals know.
- There is no prize giving. Results will be published on the website as quickly as possible after the event. If you need to appeal/ lodge a complaint on the day they must be put in writing within 30 minutes of completing your race to richard.a.gilbertjohns@bt.com with details of the issue.
- The same process will apply for when the results are published with a 24hour grace period to submit.
- Southampton Canoe Club and its nominated officials cannot be held responsible for any loss of life, injury or damage to equipment however caused.
- You agree that we may publish your Personal Information as part of the results of the Event and may pass such information to the governing body or any affiliated organisation for the purpose of insurance, licences or for publishing results either for the event alone or combined with or compared to other events First start or compared to other events. Results may include (but not be limited to) name, any club affiliation, race times, occupation, and age category.
