Sprint racing is one of only two canoeing events included in the Olympic Games. The races take place on a straight, flat water course over distances of 200 metres, 500 metres and 1000 metres.
Paddlers are individually ranked based on ability, and race within their own ability division, except at the individual championships where races are held within age categories.
In Great Britain, sprint racing is based around the five National Regattas, including National Championships and an Inter Club Championship at The National Water Sports Centre course at Nottingham. Along with other clubs, Southampton Canoe Club hold a local regatta in the summer.
More information about GB sprint racing can be found at the BCU’s site here

The club will gather all entries and enter a squad. If you would like to participate, you will need to know your time over 500 metres. Please speak to your coach if you don’t already know this.
